The business world understood the necessity of knowledge in every sphere especially in global economy. The importance of is not limited to business management but also in research departments, universities, development department and so on.
Most of these are handled by experts and IT professionals who are in to this field and have good knowledge about searching information, preserving and organizing several books, selecting and acquiring. The recent development in the technology has led to this kind of a library where information is crucial. This has several diversities which mean that there is information about many other things. With the rapid increase in the knowledge management field people generally get confused between knowledge and information although both of them are two different words with two meanings.
Knowledge is basically a systematic arrangement of ideas transmitted to some other people with the help of a certain medium. Information on the other hand is a kind of data that has been broadcasted or communicated. Knowledge management library keeps information only on those facts which are useful for an organization and thus it is connected to the organization in a manner which will help the organization to grow in the long run. As we know that knowledge keeps changing and as a result the knowledge library keeps updating and revising their information and at times when the information is no more valid they consider them obsolete. The concept, knowledge management is often used today’s world. And in the knowledge based society, intellectual capital is considered as a prime resource for any organisation. Thus Peter Drucker said, “The foundation of an organisation is not money or capital or technology. It is knowledge and education (human capital), knowledge workers will be by 2005 the single largest group in the labour force”.
The emergence of new complicated situation made every organization to have knowledge management initiatives to accumulate, preserve and utilize the knowledge in systematic ways. Every world renewed organisations are now trying to achieve knowledge management principles for their operations.
It is concerned with the use and developments of knowledge asset of an organisation. The knowledge is either explicit knowledge or tacit knowledge. The explicit knowledge is called as documentary knowledge and the tacit knowledge or subjective knowledge is resides in the minds of employees/scientists and so on.
